Bluecube oversee office relocation for Stokes Tea & Coffee


Bluecube recently won the contract to provide hosted voice and business internet services for R.W. Stokes & Son’s new head offices. The Lincolnshire based company began its journey in 1892 and is a well-known local brand. Stokes specialise in high quality coffee and loose teas and have remained a family business through four generations. The company are moving their head offices to The Lawn, a Grade II listed building on Union Road in uphill Lincoln. The £1.5 million refurbishment project will see a new coffee complex with a third café run by Stokes, a roastary complete with viewing gallery, Victorian theatre, barista training centre, managed office spaces, retail units and upcoming new restaurant.

  • Challenge: To provide a business voice solution that was within budget and install an internet service that would provide enough bandwidth to run and support the business and associated ventures efficiently. With the project planning to reach completion by early summer 2017, Bluecube had to deliver within a challenging timeline.
  • Solution: Bluecube’s hosted voice solution, Silverline, running over high speed FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) broadband circuits.
  • Result: A scalable ‘next-generation’ phone system with a mixture of wired and wireless handsets. High speed internet to deliver voice services, payment terminal connectivity and sufficient bandwidth for the office.

The Background

Stokes Tea & Coffee is a family run business that has been incorporated since early in the nineteenth century. Their famous coffee shop on Lincoln High Street is situated in High Bridge, a famous and historic building that sits over the River Witham running through the city centre. The company has been given the green light to convert The Lawn into a major visitor’s attraction; Managing Director Nick Peel was quoted in local online news vendor The Lincolnite as saying: “The opening of the café will just be the beginning of many exciting plans for The Lawn. It will be a hive of activity and hub of the community once complete – something that is very important for Stokes that has been operating within Lincoln since it was founded 115 years ago”. After two years of negotiations, Stokes completed purchase of the site in August 2016 to become the new head offices and a new Lincoln tourist attraction. Bluecube were approached with the task of providing a new phone system at the head office site that connected to the main café in the city centre. Stokes also required a fast and reliable internet connection to provide sufficient Wi-Fi coverage across the complex and run other IP services.

Bandwidth

Several solutions were reviewed and after extensive preliminary checks, Fibre broadband (FTTC) was advised as the best internet solution within budget due to the high speeds available at the two addresses. Two 80:20 mbps FTTC lines were installed in the comms room to feed the buildings CAT5 points.

Installation

Bluecube oversaw the simultaneous installation of two high speed Fibre broadband lines. Bluecube also provided a full professional installation to equip the offices with a range of desk and wireless (DECT) handsets. The installation was aligned with the number ports from the old provider to Bluecube to ensure minimum disruption. The Silverline hosted voice solution gives the organisation the opportunity to develop and grow as the system is scalable; Stokes are not restricted to the capacity of the system or the amount of copper lines they have coming in to the building.
